We won! Well, we actually took 2nd, but we felt like we won! :) The points were so close – we were only 11 points from first place, out of 600 points possible! For us that’s a big deal. While at Silver Dollar City, we saw the Huntley Sisters (www.huntleysisters.com), who we’ve known for a long time, and we got to watch the Jeanette Williams Band. Gary’s favorite part was the check they gave us that was four feet long. Lol! Not only was the competition fun, but we met so many good pickers and nice people! We jammed Friday and Saturday night, which was cool because it’s hard to find a jam with other kids. We met a lot of new people, including the Hartley family (www.hartleyfamilybluegrass.com), and had lots of fun jamming with them :). We were sad to miss the jam Sunday night, but we had a LONG drive (12 and a half hours!). This morning, John remembered he had an assignment for history where he needed to take a picture of himself with his history text book in front of a historic landmark. We had already passed Lincoln’s log cabin, so we decided to stop at Benjamin Harrison’s house to take a picture really quickly. We weren’t even going to tour the house or anything. We got there and decided we wanted a tour, because it is a really beautiful brick house, and it was huge! :) And then we found out that the house was closed because it is Memorial Day! We got the picture anyway, and saw the rose garden and the sundial lol! We’ve decided that the next time we go through Indianapolis (which could be a long time from now) we will plan to stop and check it out.

I can’t believe it! We went to Hartsford, SC to participate in the RenoFest band competition. We played last year and took third place, and were surprised then. This year we took first :) and we were shocked! The bands are always really good, and this year was no exception! We played with Flat Out Bluegrass and and the Flowers Family, just to name a few, and they are both excellent. When we played a few songs on stage that evening and got anounced as the winners, we got rained out — it was raining and VERY cold and the wind was gusting enough to knock things off the stage! But we played in between the banjo and guitar competitions, and had a lot of fun! We were on Channel 13 news and Gary had his picture in the paper, and everyone was so nice. We are excited to be able to play on the main stage next year and we were happy to see Rob and eveyrone from last year again. Check out this article on SC Now (http://www2.scnow.com/scp/lifestyles/local/article/renofest_brings_crowd_to_hartsville/113285/).

We just finished our show in Florida and are on our way home. The shows were so much fun, and the people were SO nice! :) It was a little rainy and chilly on Saturday, and everyone was apologizing about the weather, but we were happy it was above freezing! Bad Florida weather is still way better than good Ohio weather. :) And Sunday’s weather was excellent (although it felt weird to wear short-sleeves in February)! It was sunny and warm, and the breeze was nice! Everyone was so hospitable, and worked their hardest to make us feel welcome, and we’d like to thank them for all their work. We had so much fun playing for everyone, and it was really nice to meet new people, since this was the first time we played in Miami. We just had a really great time, and we hope everyone who was there did too! :)

Hi everybody! We are on our way to Miami Beach, Florida, to play at the South Florida Bluegrass Association. We left Ohio ready to get out of the snow, and we ran into a blizzard on the way down! They were predicting 8 – 12 inches of snow in parts of West Virginia that we were driving through, and the wind gusted up to 40 mph! We were so afraid to stop that we just kept going and going – we didn’t want to get snowed into a hotel! We made it though, and will be arriving in Florida in a few hours, but it was an interesting (and snowy) trip! :)

Hi everybody! We had a GREAT weekend! We participated in the band competition this year, and we won 9th place! We were ecstatic just to make it to the second round, let alone finish! It was very gratifying to see our hard work pay off, and it was worth every minute of it. We spent a lot of time (when we weren’t practicing for our set) jamming. John stayed up really early to jam with some of his friends, and to meet some new ones. It was nice to catch up with everybody again, and Gary especially loved his reunion with Little Bit (the very cute dog at the T-shirt booth J). Stay safe on your drive home – watch out for all the snow! We’re supposed to get more on Tuesday, so John, Gary, and I are going to pray hard for a snow day J. Keep warm and dry, and we’ll see you down the road!
